To Nation's Capitol and on to Portugal

On a previous trip, we stopped at a junk yard on the way off the Outer Banks to pick up a piece of a Corvette Stingray.  It was a gag Christmas gift for Christian.  At the time we told him we were bringing him his dream car a piece at a time.
We attempt to bring him another piece but the owner doesn't arrive until too late in the day for us to wait.  Bloody bankers hours!

We're staying at the Intercontinental at Market Wharf in D.C.  Wow, what a transformation.  When last we were here, there were fish markets, doggy tourist restaurants, and little else.  There is now a reduced fish market presence, great restaurants, high-end shopping, quality hotels, office buildings, condos, and at least three entertainment venues, not to mention the Potomac River taxi service to National Harbor, Alexandria and Georgetown.

Disappointed to find our own rooftop bar closed for a private event, we visit one located floors above our room but not part of the hotel. There are views down the Potomac River and across it toward the Pentagon.  We enjoy a crispy rice tuna and a couple of delicious designer cocktails. We decide to leave before the in-crowd laughs us out of the place on age and dress.

A walk around the new development takes us to the original fish market. It's located only a short block from our hotel.

We dine at a well-known chef's tapas restaurant, Del Mar by Fabio Trabocchi.  Unable to get indoor reservations, we have a marvelous meal at his adjacent outdoor venue.

During dinner a rain comes through.  Even though we can feel sprinkles it's a bit refreshing.  We're treated to a beautiful sunset.

The following overcast day, we make final arrangements for our departure for driving to Dulles Airport via Hama Sushi, what used to be our weekly sushi stop when we lived blocks away. It is always a great reunion with the owner, Yong.
