Early morning touring without the tourists is sensational. It's hard to imagine building this place with today's technology but how did they build it back then? CJ begins at the chateau level (top) and is first, and only customer, for initial descent of the incline to the sanctuary level (middle level) with many chapels.
Stairs connect the lower medieval village with the sanctuary level.
The view from the town to the chateau.
Rocamandour is spectacular in itself, but its location along this long gorge makes it a camping and hiking destination served by a nearby train station. Having returned to the chateau level by an elevator and incline, there are still few tourists. The views from the chateau catwalk are breathtaking.
