Dining in Brest

Funny thing happened on the way to a fine French restaurant.  La Marroc got in the way.  Bumped into this place waiting for other to open. Two fine cous cous based North African dishes washed down with a Morrocan wine.  Can't think of a better way to get me to eat tons of vegetables. Must have eaten a month's supply of carrots, zucchini, raisins, chick peas, turnips, and other stuff.  You can get me to eat anything if you cover it with enough harissa hot sauce. Huge serving of lamb and merguez for CJ, spiced beef kebab and unexpected merguez for Carol.
From the top, a bowl of traditional sauce for the cous cous, harissa, spiced chick peas, and some marvelous preparation of raisins.

30 years ago, CJ would walk three blocks from his hotel for a quick crepe meal at Creperie Moderne. 26 years since his last visit, we're back.  And in this case one can go back.  A fine ble noir (buckwheat) meal crepe of sunny side egg, ham and cheese followed by a desert crepe of banana, pear and vanilla ice cream.

Somehow our request for white wine ended up as a traditional Bretton cider.  30 years ago, CJ hated the local cider.  The American cider craze has apparently changed his palate.  Today it seemed the perfect match.

Our month in Brittany is off to a fine culinary beginning.  Unfortunately, the world's leaders of legislatures, including Nancy Pelosi are staying in nearby Le Conquet while attending their part of the G7 which takes our seafood dinner choice for the weekend off the table.  A pizza is no substitute for a plateau fruis de mer (tower of seafood).
