Adelaide Hills and New Era

We have a noon appointment in the Adelaide Hills at New Era Winery, or what is left of it. There has not been any progress on the winery but the vineyards are looking well.

Bob had been expecting a small wine tour and we were to piggyback on that tasting event. They cancelled and now we are sitting with Bob and his wife in their kitchen in front of the woodstove on this chilly morning.

We taste the Pinot Grigio, rose, and new Gruner Vetliner. Iain had told us about the Gruner and that is what CJ wants to taste. Since the bushfire tragedy, another Adelaide Hills winery donated a ton of Gruner Vetliner grapes to them and this is their first attempt making this Austrian varietal. Of course, with our friend Klaus a major importer of Austrian wine into the US, we are very familiar with the wine, likely even more familiar with it than Iain and Bob.

We taste and chat for TWO HOURS. On departure we take a case of their Sangiovese, a case of the Temprenillo and a mixed case of Gruner Vetliner and Pinot Grigio.

It is a very cold day and it is well past lunchtime. We divert our route home for lunch at the Uraidia Hotel and Brewery. It is busy and booked out. We take a seat outdoors and must cover up with provided blankets

It is good pub food.

The next time we're up this way we'll have to book into the pizza restaurant across the street. It is associated with a good winery. It is located in an old church.
