Fun in The Riverlands

Following lunch at the Renmark Club, CJ spied a bizarre craft on the Murray River waterfront. Kenny Rogers' Coward of the County drifts from the unmanned craft.

The must-do stop when visiting The Riverlands is Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery. Since renting one of his houseboats a few years ago, we've come to know the owner, Tom Freeman. Since our first visit, his selection of brews and quality have dramatically improved.

The brewery is set on an old sheep station and sited in its woolshed, hence the name. It is located on a small bay of the Murray River, the same place you depart on the houseboat. Tom's houseboats come with a keg setup; or two if you want.

Sheep shed floors are not solid to allow flow of liquid through the slats. Someone in the party on the other side of the room has apparently lost something between them. Good luck with that recovery!
We arrived with expectations of returning to the US before the onset of winter. We did not pack winter clothing. They offer gorgeous flannel souvenir shirts. CJ purchases two and the best winery hat ever! Check out the built-in bottle opener.
It is time to enjoy a 'frothy' along the banks of Tom's private bay. It is a beautiful setting.

CJ has a long chat with Tom before settling down to sampling a few brews. Poor Neil is driving. CJ selects The Bunyip Imperial Stout, River Time Session Ale, and Amazon Ale. CJ's favorite is Judas the Dark, a stout brewed with roasted wattleseed. With the nose of a bloodhound when it comes to detecting and quickly rejecting any sense of coffee, CJ doesn't get the coffee connection.

A tasty dark beer brewed with locally grown and roasted wattleseed. This dark ale is unique in its flavour and design. Roasted malts provide chocolate and spice, while the wattleseed provides toffee, hazelnut and coffee flavours.
The staff were setting up a food table for a private party. It appeared to be quite the spread. Departing we have a look at the whole pigs being prepared.
