Adelaide Botanic Gardens

In the three years that we lived in Adelaide, we never visited the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.  We visited the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden which is a subsidiary but even though we were often within one block of the Botanic Gardens, we never made it there. We made it to the adjacent National Wine Centre of Australia but never to the gardens.

During the last two post-retirement years, the gardens have become an integral part of CJ’s longer walks.  The adjacent Botanic Park an integral part of his biking circumnavigations of the CBD.

This year CJ has had a couple of forays into the gardens.  We went to Fire Gardens as a part of Adelaide Festival. CJ photographed the Fire Gardens displays by day on a long walk.

When we go on our walks, CJ never tells Carol where we are headed.  To be honest, sometimes he has a plan, often he does not have a clue. On one day, we find ourselves in the Botanic Gardens as a result of a plan gone awry. We had attempted to pass through the Adelaide Railway Station and found it closed off due to construction. Forced back to North Terrace we walked the length of the CBD and began the return through the Botanic Gardens.

At this time of year, the hibiscus are particularly gorgeous.

The path leading to the Friend's Gate that empties into Botanic Park is lined with massive strangler figs.

We found a live bird adorning one of the entrance columns outside of the Friend's Gate.
