Day6 - Ozu

Today we visit Ozu. This is a village lost in time. There is an option for visiting Ozu Castle in the afternoon. It looks just like Himeji Castle only not as pretty so we blow it off. This ancient city exists now for tourism. Many of the homes have been taken over by a single hotel chain. To its credit, the chain has maintained the exterior features of the buildings and attempted to maintain as much inside as possible while creating a modern experience for tourists.

This is typical architecture of the village.
We visit this home of a wealthy trader.
The gardens behind the house are extensive and beautiful. There is a small tea house, larger guest house, and a cave which in ancient times served as the cold cellar. It appears they could harvest ice from the adjacent river.
In another part of the village one resident has amassed a large antique collection. This is only part of the room dedicated to Coca Cola. It contains signs, bottles, memorabilia, and a number of dispensing machines, some we had not seen since childhood.
