Carol got some good pictures of Mt. Fuji from the plane on our approach to Tokyo.
Today we travel two hours to get a close-up look. On the way we get a couple of good looks but do not stop to take pictures. This is one from the moving car. Big mistake.
Arriving near the base of the mountain, we found out why they call Mt. Fuji the shy lady. It is covered by clouds and we can only see the skirt of the mountain. Behind us, the shy lady.
The consolation prize is the best soft serve ice cream ever. Carol does not like soft serve. Today she has a cone of two flavors, lavender and rose petals. She is now a convert to soft serve. The blue berry vanilla was excellent but a distant second to the lavender/rose.
These are controversial hotel units built into the mountain.
Besides the delicious rose and lavender ice cream, there is a large garden at our stop.
We have time on the return to Tokyo. CJ asks to see Tokyo Bay. Our driver takes us on a circular route to south Tokyo through the 11.3-mile Yamate tunnel under Tokyo. It exits not too far from another tunnel under Tokyo Bay. We return to the CBD via the Rainbow Bridge over the harbor.
