We rise at 0500 and are on our way to Snowmass before 0600. Driving in the dark is a problem. We're lucky to have cars to follow.
Our strategy to beat the snow is a sound strategy shared by about 10,000 of our soon to be best acquaintances. I-70 is a parking lot all the way to the Eisenhower Tunnel (under the Great Divide). The drive from Boulder to Frisco which should take an hour and a half takes three hours. Today, we fought fog, snow and a bazillion vehicles.
It gets better after that. We make the trip from Frisco to Aspen in the two and a half hours that is normal. CJ compensates for the slow pace to Vail fighting snow, snow plows and crappy roads with a lightning pace once the snow and snowy roads disappear.
We have lunch at a marvelous French creperie. How good is it? We can't get another reservation for this week; it is that busy.
By mid afternoon the snow begins at Snowmass, we are nestled into our condo awaiting the arrival of friends, CJ has hi skis, and the predicted snow arrives. Our amazing condo is spacious with great views of the resort and the slopes.
The strategy worked.
In the meantime, our friends who were flying into Aspen this evening, are stuck in Denver, their flight to Aspen cancelled.
CJ ends the evening with a terrible allergy attack. And of course, most of our allergy medicine is home.
