U-505

U-505 is the German submarine capture by the USN in World War II.  It was the first ship boarded since the War of 1812. The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is its home. The museum has many interesting exhibits. The trains and model train display were particularly interesting.  The stainless steel Zephyr once held the speed record between Denver and Chicago.

After many years outdoors U-505 was restored and in quite a feat of engineering moved indoors. The entire exhibit is spectacular.  It's very impressive when you enter a room to find a nearly 300 foot long submarine. You'd expect that to be CJ's opinion but it came from Carol.

After a long day that began in Norfolk at 0400, dinner must be easy and we find a famous chef had a Catalan restaurant in our hotel; and that is where we end our first day in Chicago.
