Netzl, Steindorfer, and Leo Hillinger

We have a two-hour morning ride back through Vienna almost to the Hungarian and Slovakian borders. At Netzl, Christina greets us. We met her when she came to the ship on our Danube River cruise with Klaus. She is eventually joined by her father, the previous winemaker.

It is a short ride to Steindorfer. We taste their catalog but CJ is only interested in one wine, their amazing Cuvee Klaus dessert wine. We've tasted many vintages over the year and never a disappointment.
We were introduced to Cuvee Klaus years ago in D.C. It is a very, very special dessert wine. The wine originally had another name. Klaus told them he couldn't sell it in the U.S. with such a nondescript name. They renamed it and it is now a big seller.

During our wine Danube River cruise, Klaus served Steindorfer wines at the arrival dinner. CJ told Roland how much we loved the Cuvee Klaus. Roland insisted we attempt to convince his father since he disagreed. It appears he is now convinced.

Obviously tasting at only two wineries is not enough. Finishing the day with a great dessert wine is also inadequate. The final winery of the day is Leo Hillinger. This is the one Carol is looking forward to. She's praying to meet Leo again; even knowing that he's now older and completely changed. You ask why? Meeting Leo is like meeting David Beckham.

When it appears, she missed her opportunity having sat out the vineyard part of the event where he had put in an appearance, Leo appears for a private meeting.

There is a life-sized poster board of Leo and a dress-up basket. Carol indulges.
Three wineries and far too much food in one day and then less than three hours later dinner at the hotel!
