We spend a lazy Christmas Day until departing for dinner with the James and Jackie at five. Since Australia is a day ahead of the US we can't make Christmas phone calls until tomorrow.
We have a long cocktail hour highlighted by a Skype call with their son, Michael, his wife Claire, and their new granddaughter, Emma. With COVID, they have yet to see their new granddaughter being stranded by the border closures like us. It is early morning in the UK.
James and Jackie established a tradition a few years ago. When we are having an eventful meal, they bring out five museum (old) wines and CJ gets to choose the one for the evening. How does one reject from such a selection? Today he throws out the JJ Hahn and Veritas since we have some form of both of them in the past. The port selection is left for another get together.
Our unseasonably cool summer weather is perfect for roasting a Christmas turkey.
James does the cooking and plating. With dinner we have a Riesling, CJ's selection of a very old Shiraz, and finish it off with the best Australian 'sticky', desert wine we've ever tasted. Typically they are sicky sweet. This was is more in a French style.
What would Christmas be without a picture.
