On to Snowmass

There was not a single vehicle in Hazel's parking lot when we arrived.  Guess the locals don't buy their liquor at nine on Saturday morning. With what is now a packed vehicle we enjoy the scenic back route to I-70 completely bypassing Denver.

It's a long climb to the Continental Divide and Eisenhower Tunnel. The next driving segment passes the exits for the Summit County ski areas and directly past Copper Mountain, Vail and Beaver Creek.  You then descend to what I call the Colorado central plains a relative flat area where the Interstate finally runs straight. The last phase of the drive goes quickly with the picturesque passage through Glenwood Canyon and the 40 mile drive to the southeast up to Snowmass bringing us back to within 11 miles of the Continental Divide about an hour and a half after we passed under it.

The day began under sunny skies which gave way to heavy rain beginning around Vail and continuing to induce high anxiety even as we turned onto Snowmass Village Road.  Half way up the climb to the village the rain finally changed to snow.

We have a great slope slide condo with a 50 foot flat walk to the slope. Here's a bit of tour while we wait for our friends to join us.  A bad accident on Interstate 70 near Copper Mountain had them stopped for quite a time.

The heated pool and hot tub are right outside of our door. It's a two bedroom unit that could sleep 10 without using the couches.

The traffic finally clears and CJ's ski buds begin slogging their way to us. You can't get better service than this.  Show up, unload and sit down to a meal of homemade chili, beer and wine. Carol crossed the country with frozen meals packed in our luggage.

The drive has taken it out of all of us.  The day ends around ten.
