Amman

We land in Amman and wonder where the city is located. We land in the middle of the desert with no city in sight!

Our National Geographic guide, Mo for Mohammed, is a cracker. There is a touring route to the hotel. First stop is the Jordanian Museum.

If you recall the trains Lawrence of Arabia was blowing up in the movie, this is a rail car from that railroad line.
The museum is a collection of the cultural history of Jordan. It is a relatively small yet reasonably extensive broadbrush of Jordanian history.

The second stop is lunch. If this is the quality of restaurant Mo is picking for our time in Jordan, our waistlines are in serious jeopardy. The hummas looks and tastes yummy.

We are forced to take their word for this being safe to drink bottle water.
Amman Citadel is a multicultural historic site. Its most notable feature is the ruins of the columns of the Temple of Hercules.

There are signs of all the civilizations that have inhabited this land now called Jordan over the centuries. The hill was fortified in 1800BCE!
Inside of the remains of the Byzantine church, CJ's Cricket Australia shirt draws the attention of this Indian tourist. We have a chat. An interesting coincidence is that within the past day, both the Indian men and Indian women's cricket teams have played and lost to their Australian counterparts.
These are the ruins beyond the church.
The grounds are extensive. The uphill walk to the church has done both of us in. The group descends by a circuitous route in order to get a better view of the Roman Amphitheater. We've seen and been into them several times. Our view is fine.
