Overnight we have been in the igloo. Overnight has been the coldest of the expedition.
Carol makes it to about 5am and leaves the igloo for our cozy room. CJ wakes a half hour later, and abandoned, goes for tea. Bud, the expedition leader informs him that the temp is -15 C or 5 F. Overnight it was even colder, presumably below zero F or -18C. No wonder we did not make it to wake up and coffee in bed at seven.
This picture is taken at about 2am when CJ braves the cold for a potty break.
With the ship sleeping, it is a good time to photograph the 8th floor amenities and the bridge. At the far end of this room is a second kitchen used to service the special chef's table invitation-only dinners, afternoon tea, and outdoor BBQs.
The chef's table "private" dining area. It is a fun seven course tasting dinner. This is the lounge on the bow which also houses the library and an electronic chart table.
This is a small sitting area between the library and the bar.
Player piano and large screen TV used to project ship's programs and bridge images such as the polar bear dining on the seal. This sits in the middle of the 8th deck lounge. The bar is to the left, the library to the right, dining tables near, and chef's table far.
One of the stairwells begins in the library. One floor down is the bridge. Lindblad has an open bridge policy. At this ungodly time of morning, there are three ships crew, Bud, and his assistant on the bridge. This is the main steering and maneuvering console.
This is the port wing steering console used to dock the ship.
The US Navy in their infinite stupidity and conservatism will not adopt this technology in my lifetime.
This bridge makes my technical head spin!
Today we are at
Van Mijenfjord.
