Post Veale Gardens Gilbert Street Hotel Dinner

The walk to Veale Gardens has been too much for Carol's foot, particularly since CJ forced her to experience the sights along his bike route. It was not all sinister as he had a plan. One block from the exit of the gardens is salvation.

The Gilbert Street Hotel is one of the best pubs in Adelaide which says a lot since although Adelaide is known as the "City of Churches" and the "Festival City", it could also easily be known as the "City of Pubs". There is no doubt that pubs outnumber churches.
The pub is renown for its beer selection, both draft and in cans. The draft selection changes often and is displayed on a large screen. CJ begins with the fourth one down from the left column.
The list of beers available in bottles and cans spans many pages and is organized by beer style. This is CJ's dark beer page. One of the beers he samples is the Lobethal Bierhaus Crème brûlée Desert Ale.
There is sidewalk dining in front of the pub, bar-side dining on both sides of the bar, a quaint little room behind the bar for drinking, and an open air area in the rear. One wall has a pentagon of bicycles on the wall.
After the long walk, Carol decides on salt and pepper squid. CJ selects a chicken burger.
It is Octoberfest and the Gilbert is featuring imported German draft beers. CJ begins with a Doppelbock. He follows it with this local beer from a Port Adelaide brewery. The beer is as good as the can is pretty.
You need not wear a mask when eating and drinking but must wear one when up and about ordering. All staff wear masks all the time.
