Adelaide CBD Architecture - Part 2

As the weather continues to improve as we come out of winter, I continue to walk with camera and capture the beautiful buildings throughout the city. This is the keystone fountain of Adelaide. It is located in Victoria Square at the geographic center of town.

This is a classic pub on East Terrace

This is a cluster of high rise apartment buildings.

And finally various office buildings hidden among Adelaide's modern architecture. The steepled building is the old Treasury.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CBD High Rise Architecture - Part 1

There are many more apartment buildings in Adelaide since we lived here; and, they are getting taller and more dramatic. In the case of the one above, a twin is under construction on the other side of the street.

CBD Architecture of Homes - Part 1

This is the first installment of the architecture of homes around the Central Business District of Adelaide. There is what is called the 'heritage' home style which is most prominent around the city. It is a single story design which can be either free standing or built as a duplex.

 

 

 The next style is the 'heritage' town home, town houses built in the heritage style.

And then there are the mansions of our new east end neighborhood. Many of these are along the non-commercial 'bump-out' sections of East Terrace.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lunch at La Buvette

Not only has our favorite French Bistro reopened following the virus shutdown but it has reopened serving morning coffee and lunch. We make it a point to schedule breakfast on a morning when CJ must transit to the west end for physical therapy and Carol needs to shop at the central market.

The only problem is that they do not have pain chocolat this week which is what CJ uses to judge the quality of a good bistro. That said, La Buvette is always a wonderful experience.

Carol's almond pastry was divine and CJ opted for a croque mousier.

 

Pizza et Mozzarella

Pizza et Mozzarella is one of our go-to restaurants; a recurring visit. When it comes to ordering, we are gleefully in a rut. Why mess with perfection. The standard order is a tomato cheese and basil Margherita pizza for Carol, a njuja, hot salami, and chilli Calabrese pizza for CJ, an order of pork and veal meatballs stuffed with mozzarella in homemade tomato sauce and a bottle of Montepulciano Abruzzo. The only variations are the number of orders of the world's best fist-sized meatballs we take home and whether we crack a second bottle of wine.

We tried this place on last years visit and have been visiting steadily since.

Note the size of that meatball. We have never had a meatball as good as this which is why we order extra and take them home and add them to spaghetti or simply have them buy themselves.

                                              

Our Winter Comfort Food - Lamb Shanks

Our winter comfort food is supplied by our personal butcher in North Adelaide. Carol tweeks the recipe from preparation to preparation but they are always wonderful. This time they are accompanied by one of Phil and Judy Cross' Angas Plains Winery museum Emily Cross Shiraz from 2007.

A Winter Stroll Along the River Torrens

The daily walks along the River Torrens are becoming cooler and more barren as we head into winter. The sculpture on the north end of the Adelaide Uni footbridge is now adorned with hundreds of locks.

 

 This is the view looking down the river toward Adelaide Oval.

 

This is the down river view with the city high rises in the background taken from the Frome St. bridge.

And at the end of the day, the lights have returned to the Adelaide Oval.
