Wellington is a beautiful and hilly town similar to San Francisco and Seattle. It bills itself as the Cool Est Capital in the World.
We have an amazing suite overlooking Wellington's harbour.
The concierge lounge is marvelous. A French bloke manages the lounge. This lounge has its own kitchen and breakfast chef. The breakfast chef is a fun and personable guy who makes very good made to order dishes.
Since the lounge is located beneath our room, the views are the same.
We spend one day relaxing and enjoying the room and lounge. The second day we go in search of breweries.
The third day we find two very good breweries. The first is Fork Brewery with an incredible number of taps. Good beer, good food, and interesting bathrooms. Our French host at the hotel lounge recommends a French wine bar. It has good food, good wine and good sommelier. We select this wine. Once we had this wine in our cellar. It got there after we tasted with Laurent Brusset, a fantastic young wine maker in Carrianne, Provence, France. It was a magical tasting. We tasted barrel samples of the wine he made for wine critic Robert Parker and the wine he made for French and family, the later being luscious. The sommelier could not believe we knew Laurent.
The reason we booked New Zealand for this mandated escape from Australia was the Test was on in Wellington. With flights in hand, we discovered the Test was SOLD OUT. CJ has the Uber driver pass by opening day. Unlike Adelaide Oval, Wellington's oval is tiny and there are no souvenir vendors outside the oval. Bummer.
The next stop is Garage Project Brewery. Again good dark brews. The day concludes with a ride up the cable car. In Pittsburgh, we called it an incline. The entrance to the cable car is two blocks from our hotel. There are great views from the summit. There are lads in the cricket nets adjacent to the mid-station stop.Time to head to the South Island.
