Carol Flowers During Walk - Not the Roses

 Carol has been out walking about and decided to contribute pictures of our blossoming spring.

These are cannas found in an alleyway.

This is a red hot poker.

When I put this in this post, I thought it was a flower.  Call it bad short range eyesight. It is a lorikeet in a tree.

Furnished Tomsey Street - First Floor

The last of our furniture finally arrived in late September: the six dining room chairs and CJ's Stressless recliner.

Since we first laid eyes on this property in 2008, we've thought it to be one of the most beautiful and livable properties in the Adelaide Central Business District (CBD).

One enters onto an outdoor courtyard. With contributions from our landlords and the neighbors two houses down, Carol's made up for vacant space where our showpiece gong once stood, and has decorated the patio with potted flowers and a small table and chairs.

Between the kitchen and the garage are a desk and storage nook and the laundry room and downstairs toilet. We also use the laundry room to make smoothies and microwave.

The living area is simply furnished with two chairs, a double motorized two place recliner, pictures to compliment the chair patterns and side tables and reading lamp.

The dining chairs are finally here. We can now have guests for dinner.

Under the island is storage.

There is significant storage above the appliances. We've found no need for it.

Behind these doors is hidden a closet, a pantry, and the refrigerator.

There is ample storage along this wall for food, our booze locker, and empty boxes.

Behind the main part of the house, is the garage.  The cabinets come compliments of our neighbor, Debbie, who replaced these built-ins with modern plastic cabinets. We are using the 3M nail less hanging hooks.

Now it is time to head up the 18 steps, alternatively called our daily exercise, to the second floor.

Halifax Street Spring Flowers

With each passing day more and more flowers bloom. Homes and roadside beds along adjacent Halifax Street, continue to burst out in color. This is the mid-September view.

First Steak on the Barbie

It is hard to believe that it took 75 days in the Tomsey house for us to fire up the rooftop barbie and cook a nice steak. Some of it was settling in. Some was winter. Some was the need to clean up the deck. A lot of it was not yet into the lifestyle.

When we first lived here we probably cooked up there three or four times a week. For the first time in a long time, CJ cooked the steak. Since it was a single piece of meat, he did a great job cooking it to his rare taste, not so good for Carol's medium rare pallet.

It is a beautiful evening to grill.

The reason for the treat was a bit silly. He wanted a special wine bottle for the decor of the family room. Really!

It was a beautiful piece of steak sourced from one of the butcher stalls at the Adelaide Central Market served with asparagus and baked potato. We paired it with a 2017 Langmeil Orphan Bank Shiraz made from vines of at least 70 years. The "orphan" vineyard at Langmeil is one where they transplant old vines other winery are tearing up. Orphan Bank is one of our better wines, perhaps the best we have in Australia.

THE RETURN OF THE MOLE!!!!

After months of waiting, and months of harassing Fernando, he finally put together enough ingredients to prepare a limited number of orders of mole enchiladas, and shut us up.

The big green "X" still applies to normal customers but we're not normal. One of the best mole dishes ever. As good as before the shutdown.

Fernando informs us that as long as we call ahead, he'll ensure we have mole enchiladas. Apparently he's laid down a small stash of fixings for us and a few select others.
 

First signs of spring

There are more signs of spring showing up in the park and on the streets around our house. Rose plants are full of buds about to burst forward. Not long before I'll be posting our nearby roses and then we'll be off to the Botanic Gardens for the early blooms.
